Base Four - Mission

Lesson One:

My Life Mission

Ice Breaker: Discuss briefly!

I have joined the church, I am engaged in ministry and growing in my faith. What’s next? Is there more that God expects of me as a believer?

Definition:

Life-Mission is a plan, a purpose, a special agenda for you. The reason for which you were placed on the earth; the thing you live to accomplish. It is the essence of your existence on earth. In other words, every believer must answer the question:

What Does God want me to do on the earth?

What does God want you to do?

Our mission involves two great privileges: working with God and representing Him.

2 Corinthians 5:17-21

Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new. 18 Now all things are of God, who has reconciled us to Himself through Jesus Christ, and has given us the ministry of reconciliation, 19 that is, that God was in Christ reconciling the world to Himself, not imputing their trespasses to them, and has committed to us the word of reconciliation. 20 Now then, we are ambassadors for Christ, as though God were pleading through us: we implore you on Christ’s behalf, be reconciled to God. 21 For He made Him who knew no sin to be sin for us, that we might become the righteousness of God in Him.

Jesus accomplished his mission and it is now our mission to go and tell of His wondrous works.

What was Jesus’ mission?

John 1:29, “The next day John saw Jesus coming toward him, and said, “Behold! The Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world!” (NKJV)

Jesus as the perfect Lamb of God took sin away. His mandate was to:

To destroy the works of the devil

He who sins is of the devil, for the devil has sinned from the beginning. For this purpose the Son of God was manifested, that He might destroy the works of the devil. (1 John 3:8)

Reconcile man with God

Now all things are of God, who has reconciled us to Himself through Jesus Christ, and has given us the ministry of reconciliation, 19 that is, that God was in Christ reconciling the world to Himself, not imputing their trespasses to them, and has committed to us the word of reconciliation. (2 Corinthians 5:18-19)

To give abundant life to those who would believe

The thief does not come except to steal, and to kill, and to destroy. I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly. (John 10:10)

Biblical Foundation for our Mission

Go into all the world and preach the gospel

And He said to them, “Go into all the world and preach the gospel to every creature. (Mark 16:15)

Bear witness to Christ to all the World

But you shall receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be witnesses to Me in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth. (Acts 1:8)

Baptize all in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit

And Jesus came and spoke to them, saying, “All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth. 19 Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20 teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.” Amen. (Matthew 28:18-20)

Preach Repentance and remission of sins in His name.

Then He said to them, “Thus it is written, and thus it was necessary for the Christ to suffer and to rise from the dead the third day, 47 and that repentance and remission of sins should be preached in His name to all nations, beginning at Jerusalem. 48 And you are witnesses of these things. 49 Behold, I send the Promise of My Father upon you; but tarry in the city of Jerusalem until you are endued with power from on high.” (Luke 24:46-49).
