Righteousness

“For he hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him.” 2 Corinthians 5:21

What does being righteous mean?

Do we have to perform good works in order to become righteous?

Your Identity – Key Points

- Jesus took our sins and gave us His righteousness

- To be righteous is to be in right-standing with God

- Righteousness is a gift. There is nothing you can do to earn it. Once you are in Christ, you are righteous.

- God sees you as just as if you have never sinned because you are clothed with the righteousness of Jesus.

- We don’t grow in righteousness. We grow in the knowledge of the righteousness we have in Christ.

- Good works are the result of our righteous position not the cause of it

Your Identity in Christ: Justified by Faith

“Therefore being justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ, by whom also we have access by Jesus Christ into this grace wherein we stand and rejoice in hope of the glory of God.” Romans 5:1-2 (NKJV)
